Middle School Girls Basketball
from Coach Ward
The girls had a busy week of basketball, starting off with the GHAC Consolation Championship Game on Tuesday at Westbury Christian. The Pioneers struggled offensively early on, but got back in the game behind a first-quarter shooting barrage from Sydney Wade. From there, Anna Schepmann and Elisabeth Hergenrader took over offensively, while Evynn Kubicek came off the bench to provide some huge rebounding and defensive play. In the end, the Pioneers pulled away for a 25-17 victory. The girls closed out the week at the Salem 7th and Under Tournament. After opening, with a tough 3-point loss to Trinity Klein, the girls earned back-to-back 17-point victories against Our Savior and Immanuel Giddings to earn a spot in the semifinals against First Baptist. Unfortunately, the shots just weren't falling, and a ferocious fourth-quarter comeback fell just short, forcing the girls to settle for a third-place finish. Schepmann was the tournament's leading scorer, averaging 14 points per game. Lanie Ward was a standout defensively, fighting through finger and elbow injuries while continuing to constantly fight for loose balls and rebounds against much bigger girls. The Pioneers now have a couple weeks off before closing out the season at the LMST State Tournament February 12th to 14th. South Pride!

This week the Pioneers have a big week starting Tuesday night at Fort Bend Christian. JV plays at 5:00 and Varsity at 7:00. We conclude the week at home vs a very strong Woodlands Christian team. Middle School Boys Basketball
from Coach Tarpey
Tuesday night was the much anticipated GHAC championship game against Fort Bend Christian. After a rough first half the Pioneers found themselves down by 18 points at halftime, but the boys did not come this far to give up at the half! In what was the most important second half of the season the boys came fighting back and would eventually pull of the 70 - 64 victory and be crowned GHAC champions! This comeback was fueled by two big time performances by Brody Smith and Victor Coronado who finished with 32 and 24 respectively. Brody Smith in particular played his best game of the year, hitting 7 threes in the game with 4 of them coming in the pivotal third quarter comeback. Although, these two young men were not alone in willing the team to victory, with EJ Carter and Grant Burns stepping up and playing a role in the eventual comeback! EJ Carter was part of the group that sparked the comeback with his rebounding ability and a few pivotal baskets. While Grant Burns stepped up and played almost the entire second half! Without his rebounding and defense around the basket the comeback would not have been possible. I know we could not all be prouder of our Pioneers for a great performance this season!

Although the GHAC championship has been clinched the season is not over! The boys now move on to preparing for the Lutheran State Tournament February 12-14. I am excited to see what else this great group of young men can accomplish this season!
