from Coach Riveness
The varsity girls basketball team lost at Woodlands Christian last Tuesday night 57-37. The team was led by Makynna Robbins’ 15 points and 11 rebounds, Gayle Henderson added 9 points and 4 rebounds. On Friday the girls won at home vs. Cristo Rey Jesuit 42-10. With senior Gayle Henderson out with a hamstring strain, Cayden Koster led the Lady Pioneers with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Makynna Robbins added 10 points and 3 rebounds while Emma Quinton scored 9 points. The girls are now 2-2 in district and will play at Cristo Rey Jesuit this Friday evening at 6pm.

Middle School Girls Basketball
from Coach Ward
The Varsity Girls continued their strong start to 2021 with a 26-17 victory over tough Cypress Christian squad. Anna Schepmann and Elisabeth Hergenrader handled the bulk of the scoring with 18 and 7 respectively, while Sydney Wade and Jordyn Mayo locked things down in the paint. Madison Jones played some great all-around basketball in her first game at the varsity level, while Arizona Alverez, Nicole Bogle, Vittoria Nicolosi, and Elizabeth Koza made strong contributions off the bench. The Lady Pioneers travel to St. Thomas Episcopal this Tuesday for the first game of the GHAC Postseason Tournament, looking to take their first step at bringing home the title.

The JV Girls closed out their season with a 14-8 loss against Grace. Leading scorers were Jones, Nicolosi, and Hope Gonzalez. This season was a great learning experience for the girls, all of whom made great improvements throughout the year. Looking forward to getting them out on the court again next season to see what they can do.

Middle School Girls Soccer
from Coach Hoch
The Middle School Girls’ Soccer team had one game this past week. They played Grace School on Tuesday and at the end of regulation were tied. The girls went to PKs and unfortunately were not able to pull out a win. However, they received the two seed going into the conference tournament and secured a first-round bye. The girls have their first tournament game this Tuesday at home against Fort Bend at 4:00 pm.

Middle School Boys Basketball
from Coach Mecom and Coach Tarpey
During the 7th grade game last week, LSA lead 21-15 at halftime at Cypress Christian. We had 10+ fouls in the first half, putting a few key players in foul trouble entering the 2nd half. The team regrouped and locked in on defense. The Pioneers outscored Cypress 23-1 in the 2nd half. We were lead by our point guard, Brenden, who had 23 points but more importantly zero fouls in the 2nd half. Every player contributed in this game and made their coach extremely proud. We are ready to make some noise in the playoffs! South Pride!

The 8th grade boys team finished off their regular season with games on Tuesday and Friday vs Grace Presbyterian and Cypress Christian. Tuesday was a convincing win from our Pioneers. Lead by a 17 point 1st half from Brody Smith, the boys were able to jump out to a big lead early that they never let up. On top of that big performance, James Stoeckel had a season high 10 points in the win! This win from LSA sealed our spot as the 2 seed in the upcoming GHAC tournament. The team followed up Tuesday with a big challenge from Cypress Christian Friday night. In what would be one of the strangest nights of the season, the pioneers battled foul trouble all night long and ultimately came up just short 48-49 to Cypress in overtime. Although the team was disappointed, that experience will only make us stronger going into post season play next week. GHAC Tournament play begins on Tuesday January the 19th, where the Pioneers will host a playoff game vs Grace Presbyterian at 6:30. I would encourage anyone to come out and support this exciting team as we make a run to win the GHAC championship!

LSA Swim
from Coach Hillegeist
Monday January, 11 LSA middle and high school competed at a swim against 4 other teams at Cy Fair. We had some excellent races especially coming back from Christmas break. Our girl swimmer of the meet was Lauren Ferguson. She had a 3 second drop in her 100 IM going a 1:13 and a second and a half drop in her 50 back going a 33.4. Our male swimmer of the meet was Will Spencer. Will got a new personal best in the 50 free and swam the 100 breast for the first time and did absolutely great. Overall we had a successful meet to get us started for champ meets season.
